National Clean Air Program (NCAP)

One of the most severe issues facing the environment and overall health in India is air pollution. The rapid urbanization, industrialization, automobiles and construction works as well as burning of fossil fuels have greatly worsened the quality of the air in the cities and towns. As a solution to this rising crisis, the Government of India introduced the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), a holistic and time-limited approach to improving air quality and protecting people's health. Implementation Problems

CAPM has a number of pitfalls even though it is a comprehensive design. The sources of air pollution usually go beyond the city limits and therefore, coordination at the regional level is necessary but complicated. The difference in the administrative capacity, use of funds, and technical ability in different states may also influence the results of the implementation.

Behavioural change is not a hastened process. Whereas technologies and policies can offer the structure and the means, lasting progress will rely on the participation of the population and their lifestyle modifications. Also, the balancing of economic growth and environmental protection remains an issue that is sensitive to policy.

Participation/Collaboration in the Industry

It should be noted that the National Clean Air Program cannot be successful without the cooperation between government, industry, academia, and civil society. The responsibility of such companies is to embrace cleaner production methods, invest in pollution control technologies, and contribute towards environmental awareness programs.
